BUDDY LEE

Buddy Lee, was an advertising mascot for Lee Jeans, during 1920 till 1962. Sales manager Chester Reynolds, later Lee's board president, came up with the idea of using a doll to "model" miniature versions of the company's clothes for store displays. The 12½-inch composition dolls first appeared in the windows of Dayton's flagship store on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, then were used at stores nationwide.

Lee encouraged stores to sell the dolls after the displays were taken down, and later provided the dolls for retail sale, including versions dressed as a cowboy, Coca-Cola deliveryman, railroad worker and gas station attendant. Starting in 1949, Buddy Lee was produced as a 13-inch hard plastic doll, along with a female version, Betty Lee.
The Buddy Lee dolls were discontinued in 1962 because they were no longer profitable. By then, Buddy Lee had become the second-highest-selling doll in the United States. On ebay you pay between 100,-- and 300,-- bucks for a doll. Nowadays  you will find Buddy Lee  displayed in the better jeans stores.

LIQUOR STORE

Another store on my "Shopping list" when I'm in New York. J.Crew took over an old Liquor Store and started their very first stand alone men store in an Tribeca tavern form 1825. The original wood bar is still intact and instead of whiskey you buy your chino's there. Next to the clothing you can buy vintage watches, Lp's and handpicked magazines like Esquire from the 60's.

NANTUCKET RED

Welcome to Nantucket the preppy island
See Brant Point lighthouse

Go to Murray's for your own Nantucket Reds

The original Nantucket Red pant is sold by a small store called Murray' s Toggery, this pant used to be worn by the "upper class" who had their second home in the Hamptons. Due to the sun and salty waters it will fade from brick red to salmon pink. Nowadays it's not just a pant it's a preppy must have. Lot of designers are inspired by the color of the pant, for example Michael Bastian, 45RPM, Ralph Lauren and Gant just to name a few. Wear your Nantucket Reds with a madras shirt and boatshoes or even a dinnerjacket can be a great statement.

Iggy Pop, 2000
Mary J. Blige, 1999
Po' Monkey's lounge, 2000
Preservation Hall, 2002

This great book with pictures from Annie Leibovitz, shot between 1999 and 2002 is  great nostalgia trip through music history. The title in old woodblock-looking type, American Music. On the back cover is mentioned that the cover image is the turntable, left in Elvis Presley’s bedroom the day he died. An excellent selection of musician portraits plus some pictures of wooden jook joints and wide open fields in the South. This book looks great on your coffee table!
