The Tab collar is a cousin of the pin collar- both secure the pointed collar beneath the tie knot. This type of collar was popular in the 1920s and 30s, and again in the 1950s among Frank Sinatra and others. Today it's back again by those who wanna show that they know fashion-history, the only difference...they don't button it!

The guy with the hanky was shot on the Pitti, the ties in the middle are from Monitaly Fall 2011 collection and the guy with the checked tie (it's hard to see but it got fringes, like the last pic) is from the coming Prefall 2011 collection of Gant.
